My Discover Airlines Business Class Review. Is It Worth It?
Share this article: Share on Facebook Share on Pinterest

This is not my usual business class cabin review. I am usually flying business class and do airline reviews for wide-body planes and long-haul flights, which are the flights that most people are interested in.

I think the Discover Airlines Business Class review is different as most of their flights are "leisure airline" and mostly fly to nearby destinations from Germany. I did a review of the Airbus A320 Business Class.

Read my travel hacks to prepare for your next adventure.

My experience is no different; I flew Discover from Munich Terminal 2 to Las Palmas in Gran Canaria in one of the longer short-haul flights - a flight time of 4,5 hours.

We took off 20 minutes behind our schedule and arrived just in time.

It was his first flight for my 6-month-old son, so I wanted him to have as much space as possible and as much luggage as possible. I am sure you wonder if it is worth it?

Business class perks hit differently when it’s your baby’s first flight — extra space, less stress, and a surprisingly smooth 4.5-hour

My Overall ratings and flight review for the Discover Airlines Business Class:

  • Value for money: 10/10
  • Compared to economy class: 10/10
  • Food: 10/10
  • In-flight entertainment:
  • Boarding: 8/10
  • Business Class Service: 8/10
  • Seat: 7/10
  • Overall value: 95%

Small trivia about Discover Airlines

Discover Airlines serves as a quality leisure airline, a very young airline, only from 2021, and it's part of the Lufthansa group, hence you enjoy all the advantages of the Lufthansa business class. Curious about Lufthansa Business Class? Read my full review.

I think the strategy is clever as Lufthansa adapted to the self-made leisure travel trend post-COVID. But is it really worth it to pay extra?

Discover Airlines relies on the most modern and one of the safest planes - A330 (long haul flights) and A320 (short haul flights).

Is Discover Airlines' Business Class worth it?

Upgrading to Discover Airlines Business Class cost me about USD 100 on the flight from Munich to Las Palmas, which puzzled me a bit as it seemed like a great deal.

Generally, the price of another checked-in luggage, but I could get so much more for the same price. So quick and obvious question is rather - Why would anybody not upgrade to the business class cabin?

Well, the economy was full, and business class had some 20 people on board. So I guess people just like to save those 100 USD.

For only a little more, you will get a ton more. I would definitely say flying on Discovery Airlines Business Class is more than worth your money, as it’s at least double the experience for not double the money.

In this review, I’ll give you my candid opinion on all the questions you might have: price, seats, entertainment, boarding, food, service, lounge quality, and more.

So, let’s get down to business.

Value for money

That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it? Luckily for us, it’s not literally a million dollars, but is it good value for money?

Honestly, it’s some of the best value you’ll find in Business Class. Not overpriced, just way better than Economy at a not-insane premium.

For an upgrade of USD 100 per person, you will get - priority check-in and luggage claim, business lounge in any airport that has it dealt with Discovery, more space in your "economy seats", much better food, welcome drink, welcome gift, 2x more cabin and check-in baggage, priority boarding, and so on.

I honestly have not gotten so much value for USD 100 in years, or maybe ever.

USD 100 well spent—lounge access, priority perks, better food, and zero regrets

Check-in, Lounge, and Boarding

Check-in

Anyone who has children knows that check-in is a nightmare, and you would do anything to make it easier. Well, priority check-in kind of does the trick.

We didn't have to wait in the queue, and they really checked in only business class passengers at the check-in. Which, if you have had business class, you know it's not always the case.

We were checked in in no time, even though we checked in the Pram, 3 check-in baggage, baby car seat - all of those were sky priority, meaning we got our luggage first.

The check-in attendant was super nice as an additional bonus.

From skipping the check-in queue to parking the stroller in the lounge, Business Class made Munich Airport feel surprisingly manageable

The lounge

Munich Airport's business class lounge is new and spacious, but I haven’t seen any lounge so full before. Well, it kind of shows the purchasing power parity of the citizens.

It is well-maintained, and there are shower rooms if they work. There are other lounges as well - like first class and senator, but unfortunately, I didn’t have the pleasure with either.

Toilets are well-maintained and clean, but they might need refurbishment as they are visibly the most worn-out part of the lounge.

The drinks bar - okayish coffee, wines, champagne, beer, and even some premium alcohol brands (whiskies, rums, etc.)

We were at the business lounge at the time of breakfast, and the food was decent. Nothing to compare with the Air France business lounge in Paris, but it was okay and satisfying. Some eggs, bakery, cheese, ham, meat, and soup.

Unfortunately, you don't have any special views on the planes or take-offs. Another good thing is that the monitors in the lounge show you how many minutes your gate is, which is sadly not a standard everywhere. Anyway, I was lucky, and my flight was just 5 minutes away.

At the time of the visit, my son was the only Sky Priority baby in the lounge.

Boarding

This is the only annoying thing in this part of my review. Discover Airlines felt like a low cost in this area, as when boarding, you will have to go by bus to the plane and then go up the plane by the stairs in freezing cold.

You are still the first one to freeze as you have the priority boarding.

Once on the aeroplane, you will be pointed to your seat and will get a welcome drink, which is nice - we got ginger-spiced orange juice fresh, and then after a few minutes, we took off.

Stroller checked, boarding passes ready, and off we went anyway

Food - Lunch and Breakfast

On our flight to Las Palmas, we had a main course breakfast, and on the flight back to Munich, we had lunch.

In both cases, meal service started immediately after the seat belt control turned off - very efficient.

Breakfast

For a short-haul flight, the food was surprisingly delicious and wholesome. We had a very good oatmeal with pistachios and fruit. Then one of the best eggs I ever had in any business flight with bechamel sauce and spring onion, finished with seasoned cheese (which was not to my taste, but nothing wrong there).

All were served on normal ceramic plates and steel silverware. The croissant and bread could have been fresher, though.

Short-haul breakfast, but make it Business Class

Lunch

The lunch menu on the way back was really great. Looked great and had normal cutlery. I found the food to be one of the best I had in any class or on any airline.

We had pork with cabbage and potatoes (very German) and lentil salad with pesto. Both were fresh and delicious. The best part was that I had a double portion of lentils and cabbage is not nursing-friendly.

Fun fact: I found out that the flight attendant was vegan and was pushing very hard for a vegetarian option, and we almost had to push her to the meat option.

The desert was not to everyone’s taste, as there was some cognac in the fruit, which I generally don’t like. But everyone’s to its own.

Overall, a significant upgrade to the economy and especially the price point, and making it significantly easier to eat for my spouse with a child on her lap and one free seat in the middle.

Business Class made lunch in the air feel almost… civilised, even with a baby on board

In-flight entertainment screen

On my Flight, there wasn't any typical in-flight entertainment as is usual on narrow-body flights. Though on my way back, I connected to in-flight wifi, and there the entertainment was.

There is a free onboarding app of Discover where you can see a travel map, movies, plenty of choices, games (I usually use quizzes), and documents. What I found that was really well done was the destinations guide.

And of course, these were the destinations mainly serviced by Discover Airlines. I found a great touch and a kind of try for an upsell to your next flight. I actually spent about 30 minutes browsing through the destinations guide and let myself be inspired by where to go next. The guides are nicely done with videos and texts.

The application is really easy to navigate, and plenty of things to do on a narrow body. You can find the app here: https://onboard.discover.aero/ or by connecting to wifi.

Top Tip: If you bring a tablet, you will have full-scale in-flight entertainment.

Business Class Seats

Not a fancy throne, but the empty middle seat did wonders—especially when it quietly upgraded itself to baby first class

On my flight, the business class meant generally a 3-3 seat layout with each 3 served only for 2 people. Meaning you will have seats in economy with one free middle seat. Which again is cheaper than paying economy and another 60% for a free middle seat.

We don't have a pretend; it's like a business class seat or even some airlines' narrow-body flight business class seats.

There is slightly more room in front of you; otherwise, the seats are the normal size. There aren't any seat controls; obviously, half of the seats have direct aisle access, and half of them are window seats.

Don't expect: lie-flat bed options, the main power outlets, amenity kit.

I would calculate with the same sleep quality as in the economy. Don't calculate in decent sleep.

As for travelling with our little one, it was more comfortable. He made it a first-class seat for himself on both flights.

Discover Airlines Business Class - Quality of service

The service on board the Discover Airlines was just fine. If I compare it to a low-cost service, it was outright stellar. If I compare it to the legacy airlines, it's on par with most of them.

I think airlines' strategy is somewhere in between; therefore, it's better than expected.

On both flights, the flight attendants were very attentive, mainly at the start of the flight and then frequently refilled our drinks (one of the highest frequencies I had in any flight).

On the first flight, the service of flight attendants faded away in the second half of the flight, and in the second flight, the service was good all the time.

Where the service failed was the boarding of a pram in both cases; it took forever, and the staff on the ground wasn't very helpful.

I think Discover Airlines' attention is spoiled by onboard airport personnel who were not really trying to board luggage by priority, and in our second flight, we waited for an hour for our luggage - "sky priority".

Conclusion of Discover Airlines Business Class - Is it worth it?

In terms of value for money, it's an easy yes for this business class product. You will get so much value for a little more money, and in some cases, I can even imagine it might cost you more to travel in economy if you are not careful (like additional baggage, seat selection, enjoying lounges for your own money).

Sure, it's not perfect, but it costs only USD 100 more than the economy with check-in baggage. If it were USD 500 more, I might think about it harder and then probably buy it anyway. That's how much value I got from it.

I don't think they can enhance the business class for short-haul flights much further.
